Bill Youngman is a live act , MC and producer on the electronic music scene. His roots are in New York and lives in Berlin . He has been producing his own productions on various well-known labels ( Tresor , Scandinavia, etc.) since 1996 and forms the live act The Destroias with the artist Neil Landstrumm .

Life

Bill Youngman had several years of classical guitar lessons and was active as a jazz musician before producing electronic music for the first time in 1994, inspired by acid , drum and bass and hip-hop . In 1995 he met the producer John Selway from Serotonin Records, for whom he released his first EP with the title Electro Step a year later on the label of the same name. Since then, he has also been seen at several events in New York and the surrounding area. He released another ep and several tracks on compilations which also appeared on Serotonin Rec. He also worked as a producer for an album by the band Hoodwing, which was released on the well-known label Mute Records, which also released productions by Depeche Mode and Moby , among others . In 1998 he met the well-known techno producer and owner of Scandinavia Records, Neil Landstrumm. The two exchanged a few tracks, which resulted in the first EP on Scandinavia (Zooted EP), which embodied the sound of the label in its tracks. The EP Badbox was released a year later on the same label. Since that year he has continued to work a lot with Neil Landstrumm and formed the live act The Destroyaz between 2000 and 2005, with which they also played internationally in clubs and at festivals. In 2001 he moved from New York to Berlin and until its closure was a regular act in the former Berlin Tresor on Leipziger Strasse and has since worked with many well-known musicians such as Cristian Vogel , Jamie Lidell and Tobias Schmidt . In 2002 Bill Youngman released an EP under the name Audible on the DC Records label. In contrast to the rest of the style, the album consists of downtempo and funk elements. A year later he produced a hip-hop EP as Audible together with rapper Carpetface.

Music genre

The music of Bill Youngman can be assigned to techno , but the style elements melt away strongly. His music is characterized by a very dark, experimental sound that is heavy on drums and percussion . He uses acid, techno, drum and bass, Detroit , minimal and Miami bass . He uses short, varied loops , some of which merge into complex building blocks, interrupted again and again by short but effective breaks . During his live performances he also accompanies each other in broken German and English as an MC . He himself calls his style electric step.
