William Robert Crawford "Billy" Aitken (born January 11, 1951 in Dumfries ) is a former Scottish football player .

Career

Aitken, the son of a professional footballer from FC Motherwell (possibly Charlie Aitken ), narrowly missed the leap into the Scottish national school team before joining the north-west English third division club Oldham Athletic in August 1966 as an apprentice (German apprentice) . In January 1968 he received his first professional contract.

For his competitive debut for the first team, the only 157 cm tall half-striker came to the league opener in August 1968 in a 4-0 away defeat at promoted Luton Town , coach Jimmy McIlroy only offered him one more time - as a substitute for one 0-1 defeat in the League Cup against second division club Preston North End . In January 1969 he left the club and then did not appear in higher-class football.
