William "Billy" James McLaughlan Cook (born June 26, 1940 in Galston , Scotland , † July 2, 2017 in Australia ) was an Australian football player of Scottish origin.

Career

Billy Cook was born in 1940 in the Scottish town of Galston , around seven kilometers east of Kilmarnock. He began his football career in his home town with the Galston Amateurs and then played in the neighboring town of Ardrossan . At the age of 17, Cook moved to Kilmarnock FC in 1958 . Between his debut against Stirling Albion in the League Cup on August 12, 1959 and his last game in the first team, in the league against FC Aberdeen on March 11, 1961, he played only 15 competitive games (10 in the league, 5 in League Cup). At the end of the 1962/63 season , he decided to emigrate to Australia. In Australia he played until the end of his career in 1969 with Slavia Melbourne, founded by Czech emigrants, and even became a national player.

He died on July 2, 2017 at the age of 77.

National team

Billy Cook completed five international matches for the Australian national football team between 1965 and 1967 , including two games against his native Scotland .
