Today Bilora is a manufacturer of photo accessories and plastic parts and from 1909 to 1991 was one of the leading manufacturers of camera tripods , which have been produced by licensees ever since. Photo cameras were also manufactured from 1935 to 1975 . Until the beginning of 2014 the company was based in Radevormwald . Since April 1, 2014, it has been in neighboring Remscheid . The name "Bilora" consists of parts of the names Kür bi Nigge lo h Ra devormwald.

history

On February 1, 1909, the company was founded in Barmen-Rittershausen as Kürbi & Niggeloh. In addition to stands, music stands, hat and postcard stands were also manufactured. In November 1911 the company in Radevormwald received the building permit for a new factory building; that is where the company's headquarters are to this day. In 1919 the name was changed to "Bilora". In 1935 the first camera, the Bilora Box, was made. In 1939, with the outbreak of the Second World War, the rulers switched production to "war-essential" material. From then on antennas and telescopic antennas were manufactured.

After the Second World War, air pumps and jet regulators for taps were only manufactured. Camera production did not start again until 1946. In 1956 the 1,000,000th 6 × 9 box was manufactured. In the 1960s, cameras etc. a. produced for Agfa , Zeiss Ikon and Yashica .

As a result of the increasing importance of plastics, Bilora set up its own plastics production and processing facility in 1965. In 1975 camera production ended; From then on, Bilora focused on the production of tripods, camera accessories and plastics processing. Three years later, the company was expanded to include a second plastics processing plant. Most recently, in 1991, this factory was expanded to over 4000 m² of production space and 3500 m² of assembly and storage space.
