Binding coefficient

The binding coefficient (synonymous coefficient of preferential interaction , English preferential interaction coefficient ) describes in physical chemistry and biochemistry the extent of the bond between a macromolecule such as a protein and the small molecules of a mixture of solvents ( solvent and cosolvent ) according to the Kirkwood-Buff theory .

The binding coefficient can be derived from the Kirkwood-Buff theory. The preferred interaction is defined as a thermodynamic term that describes the bond between the two solvents (solvent and cosolvent). The binding coefficient is a measure of the interactions between dissolved components.
