Bingling Temple
The Bingling Temple or the Binglingsi Grottoes ( Chinese 炳靈寺 石窟 / 炳灵寺 石窟 , Pinyin Bǐnglíng sì shíkū - "Binglingsi Grottoes") with its caves of the ten thousand Buddhas is a cave temple complex on the north bank of the Liujiaxia reservoir the Yellow river in the district of Yongjing of Autonomous Prefecture Linxia Hui of the Chinese province of Gansu . They are about 80 km from Lanzhou , the capital of Gansu Province , and can only be reached by boat.
The first grotto was built around 420 at the end of the Jin Dynasty (265-420) . Today there are still 183 caves with a total of 694 stone statues and 82 clay figures of various sizes.
The cave temple has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China in Gansu (1–39) since 1961 and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site with the title Silk Roads: the Road Network of the Chang'an Tianshan Corridor since 2014 .
