Binot Paulmier de Gonneville
Paulmier de Gonneville , actually Binot Paulmier, Seigneur de Gonneville (* 15th century in Dieppe , France , † 16th century in Gonneville-sur-Honfleur ) was a French navigator.
On his journey to the “South Sea” from 1503 to 1505 and in search of the “South Land” ( Terra Australis ) he reached the Brazilian coast in 1504 , which he called “South India” and “Parrot Land” . However, as a result of the loss of his ship's journals, he was unable to give precise details on his return. It was not until 1847 that a copy was found that confirmed the localization in Brazil.
From Brazil, Gonneville brought an Indian native to France whom he named Essoméric. Since the French government did not send Essoméric back, but Gonneville felt a bond with him, he gave him his daughter and heir to wife, thus making him his son-in-law.
