Raymond Roussin SM (born June 17, 1939 in Saint-Vital (Winnipeg) , Canada ; † April 24, 2015 in Winnipeg ) was Archbishop of Vancouver .

Life

Raymond Roussin joined the Congregation of Marianists in St. Louis , Missouri in, and put on 22 August 1961, the profession from. He studied philosophy and theology first at Saint Louis University and later at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) . He received in the March 21, 1970 Friborg , the ordination . After his licentiate in theology, he worked as a teacher. From 1980 to 1986 he was Provincial of his order.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Gravelbourg on April 10, 1995 . The former bishop of Gravelbourg, Noël Delaquis , donated him episcopal ordination on June 14 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Antoine Hacault , Archbishop of Saint-Boniface , and Paul Vollmar , Auxiliary Bishop in Chur . As a motto , he chose Fortes in fide ( steadfast in faith ). He was the last bishop of the Gravelbourg diocese, which was abolished on September 14, 1998.

On September 14, 1998, he was named Coadjutor Bishop of Victoria . After Remi Joseph De Roo's retirement , he succeeded him on March 18, 1999 as Bishop of Victoria and was introduced to the office on June 28 of the same year.

On February 10, 2004 he was appointed Archbishop of Vancouver by John Paul II . His resignation for health reasons gave Pope Benedict XVI. on January 2, 2009.

From 2007 until his death, he was Grand Prior of the Canadian Lieutenancy of Vancouver of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
