The Baden-Württemberg organic mark is a regional seal of quality carried by the state of Baden-Württemberg . It is registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office under the registration number 30346021 as a word and image mark.

Organic symbol Baden-Wuerttemberg

The symbol is awarded within the framework of a contractually stipulated license system and stands for organically produced agricultural products from Baden-Württemberg or for food made from organically produced ingredients from Baden-Württemberg.

Basics and objectives

On the basis of Section 20 (3) of the Agricultural and Regional Culture Act (LLG) of March 14, 1972, the state has a mandate to promote the sale of domestic agricultural products. The organic label takes this into account by setting up and implementing targeted promotional measures.

  • Building and implementing community advertising
  • Measures to develop and maintain markets for agricultural and food products

The purpose of the Baden-Wuerttemberg organic mark is to identify products from Baden-Wuerttemberg that are produced in organic farming and that meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007 of the Council of June 28, 2007 (Organic Basic Regulation) in the comply with the currently valid version, with the indication of origin for product positioning and information for consumers.

The Baden-Württemberg organic label as a funding instrument is in accordance with European law and was notified again by letter from the European Commission (COM) dated June 1, 2016.

Structure and accountability

  • The bearer of the symbol is the state of Baden-Württemberg, represented by the Ministry for Rural Areas and Consumer Protection .
  • Licensees are associations and alliances in the field of production and marketing of ecologically produced products. As of September 6, 2017, there are eight licensees.
  • The users of the mark are commercial enterprises and companies that mark and market products with the mark.
  • Producers are farms that produce raw products for marketing under the logo, e.g. B. Fruit and vegetable growers, grain producers, etc.

All participants in the organic label are included in the program through contractual agreements. The contracts regulate the respective rights and obligations as well as possible sanctions in the event of violations.

Control system

All contractual agreements are under control. The control system has the following levels:

Neutral control

The control system for organic farms in Germany in general consists of a state monitoring authority and approved private control institutions. All organic farms are checked at least once a year by a neutral inspection body. The annual inspection is announced. Unannounced spot checks can also be carried out.

The control system of the Baden-Württemberg organic label is based on this. The specific requirements of the organic label are checked by the same testing facility at the same time as the organic inspection. For this purpose, the inspection bodies have prepared test checklists and test instructions available.

Control monitoring (meta control)

The sign bearer or the bodies commissioned by it monitor and verify that all prescribed control measures are implemented completely and properly.

conditions

Agricultural producers who produce for marketing under the organic label must have completely converted all of their operations to organic production. In addition, the prescribed conversion period must be completed. At least 50% of the farm's own feed must be used in feeding. The feed materials used must also be recorded in the positive list of the standards commission for feed materials in the Central Committee of German Agriculture. Individual products such as fruit juice or meat must meet additional requirements that go beyond the legal requirements. The current version of these additional requirements is made available for inspection and download.

The requirements will be further developed as required. In an advisory board, the relevant groups and interest groups from agriculture and food production, trade, specialist departments and consumers are included in the further development. In this respect, the organic mark corresponds to the guidelines of the EU with regard to good practice for voluntary certification systems for agricultural products and food.
