Biocon is an Indian biotechnology company based in Bangalore, specializing in cancer and diabetes mellitus drugs . It ranks 16th in the world in terms of sales, making it the largest in India.
In addition, the company expands into further segments with the establishment of the subsidiaries Syngene (molecular biotechnology and synthetic chemistry) and Clingene (microbial fermentation, biodiversity , bioprocessing, contract research).

history
Biocon was founded in 1978 by Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw . When she went public in 2004, she became the richest woman in India, known as the Indian "biotech queen". Biocon is the second Indian company to have achieved a market value of more than one billion US dollars. In 2007 Biocon invested US $ 170 million in new laboratory and manufacturing facilities at the Bangalore site .
