Biology and environmental studies

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Biology and Environmental Studies (short: BU, BiU or BIUK) is the name of a subject that is taught exclusively in Austria .

General

This subject is only taught independently from the lower level (5th grade of SI = HS, NMS , AHS ).

In elementary school (primary level), the contents of this subject area are taught as “comprehensive lessons ” within the framework of the subject “ general teaching ”.

In Austria there are three combined subjects in general education schools: in 1962, history and social studies and geography and economics were introduced. A little later the subject BU, which used to be called Natural History. Current curricula can be read in BGBl. No. 88/1985, last amended in BGBl. II No. 175/2015.

In the course of the semester-by-semester material distribution ("semesterization") decreed by the Ministry of Education for all forms of upper school, the curricula were revised. On May 18, 2016, the AHS upper level curriculum draft was assessed (including explanations of how it should come into force in September 2017).

Analogous to biology and environmental studies, natural history and commodity science were merged into biology and commodity science at vocational schools (commercial academy and commercial school) and later renamed to "biology, ecology and commodity theory".

The curricula for this can be found on the website of the Austrian Ministry of Education. In addition, there are also so-called teaching principles in Austrian schools, whereby the teaching principle of environmental education, which must be included in all subjects, should be mentioned here.
