Biomutant is an action role-playing game developed by the Swedish developer Experiment 101 and published by THQ Nordic . It should appear in 2020 for Microsoft Windows , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One .

Gameplay

Biomutant is an action role-playing game that takes place in an open world and is played from a third-person perspective . The player controls a raccoon- like creature in a world full of mutated animals. First the player has to personalize his character. Gender, height, thickness, coat length, coat pattern and many other attributes can be changed and have a direct influence on the character's statistics. A thicker character is heavier, which makes them slower, but is stronger and more resistant. The combat system combines melee and ranged attacks. The player can choose between a variety of swords and pistols and combine their power by switching between weapons during combat. The protagonist is able to dodge to the left, right and back and also to jump. In addition to leveling up the playable character, the player can also use level-up points to improve his attributes or to unlock new attack combinations. Another way to learn new attacks is to interact with specific characters in each area. Most attacks are based on weapons that can be crafted on workbenches. Each weapon has slots to which extensions, such as a corkscrew or a small chainsaw can be attached. The game has a variety of elemental weapon expansions, such as an electric or ice expansions, that are effective in combat. If an ice extension has been used, enemies will freeze if you hit them.

The player can also change his mechanical body parts in order to gain advantages over certain enemies or in certain localities. In order to reach certain locations, the player has to change his body parts or his equipment or explore the world with specific vehicles such as hot air balloons or jet skis. In this way, the player can overcome the obstacles in the environment, such as the limited oxygen in the death zone with a gas mask or an oxygen tank. So the player is able to penetrate deeper into the area and explore it in places that would otherwise be inaccessible. And the area can be explored even more with a Mech. The game also features dynamic weather and a day-night cycle that affect the gameplay and behavior of opponents.

The story is mission based and the missions are character based. Certain characters will give the player missions based on their area. The more the player interacts with these characters, the bigger the story in this area becomes. Biomutant also has a karma system for non-playable characters. Depending on the actions, interactions and decisions the player has made throughout the game, the characters' attitudes can change, which has an impact on the continuation of the story as the dialogues and quests are changed.

action

Biomutant has branching storylines where the player's decisions influence how the plot continues. The world of the organic mutant is hit by a natural disaster when poisonous oil pours up from the earth's interior and pollutes the tree of life. The tree has five roots through which it gives life to the whole world. To save the tree of life, players must go to the end of each root, where, in addition to the oil, a creature destroys the root by gnawing at it. There are also six tribes separated from their original homeland. Three of them want to heal the tree of life while the other three plan to do things on their own. Every tribe is influenced by the karma system. Players can ally with a tribe and eliminate other tribes to increase the power of the allied tribe in the world. The player can also decide the fate of the tree of life without murdering any of the trunks.

development

Biomutant is the first game from the Swedish development studio Experiment 101, which was founded in 2015 by former employees of Avalanche Studios. On August 19, 2017, an advertisement in the German games magazine GamesMarkt showed the existence of the game and described it as a "post-apocalyptic kung fu fable" before it was fully announced on August 21. The game was able to be tested later this week at the German Gamescom trade fair . In an interview published the day after the game was announced, Experiment 101 studio director Stefan Ljungqvist said that the game's content is already finished. He also mentioned that one of the hardest things for the development team was balancing the combat system to "combine shooting, hand-to-hand combat and skills in a very intuitive way." The Unreal Engine 4 is used to develop the game .
