Birgir Andrésson

Birgir Andrésson (born February 6, 1955 - 2007 ) was an Icelandic artist.

Birgir studied from 1973 to 1977 at the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts and from 1978 to 1979 at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht .

In the broadest sense, his work is assigned to conceptual art . Much of his work is based on an interaction of text and image. The high textual relevance of his works is attributed to the influence of his blind parents.

By 2006 his works were shown in around 50 solo exhibitions and as part of over 80 group exhibitions. In 1995 he was the Icelandic representative at the Venice Biennale, and in 2006 there was a retrospective of his work in the Icelandic National Gallery.
