Birgit Geissler

Birgit Geissler (born January 2, 1949 in Tann (Rhön) ) is a German sociologist and professor at Bielefeld University .

Work areas

Her main focus is labor market sociology ; Her topics also include aspects of the sociology of gender and time . It focuses in particular on service work, in particular household-related services, as well as employment biographies, life planning and life course policy and the structuring of time in work and lifestyle.

Together with Birgit Pfau-Effinger , she published research results on gender and care arrangements, life prospects for women and their decisions for part-time work and other work models, as well as on family policy and sociocultural context in international comparison.
