from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Birgit Skrotzki (born 1963 in Bochum ) is head of the Experimental and Model-Based Mechanics Department at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing and Associate Professor at the Technical University of Berlin .

Life

Skrotzki received her diploma in mechanical engineering (specializing in materials science) at the Ruhr University in Bochum in 1987 . From 1993 to 1995 she was a research associate at the Chair of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia . In 1992 she did her doctorate on temperatures and the course of the martensitic transformation in iron alloys. From 1995 to 2003 she headed the light metals group at the Institute for Materials at the Ruhr University Bochum, where she was also chief engineer from 1998 to 2003. In 2000, she completed her habilitation on the mechanical stress on light metals at elevated temperatures. In 2003 she headed the “Experimental and Model-Based Mechanics of Materials” department at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing. In 2011 she also became an associate professor at the Technical University of Berlin.

research

Skrotzki specializes in high temperature materials. Her research focuses on the following topics:

  • Mechanical behavior of metals and composite materials at high temperatures and under complex loads
  • Relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties
  • Microstructural stability
