Birgitt Ory (* 1964 in Lübeck ) is a German diplomat . She has been Ambassador to Nigeria since September 2019 . Before that, she was office manager in the office of Minister of State Michelle Müntefering in the Foreign Office .

Life

After graduating from high school in Neustadt / Holstein in 1983, Birgitt Ory studied political science, communication and German literature at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1984 to 1989. She completed this course with a Magister Artium . Ory is married and has two children.

career

In 1990 Birgitt Ory joined the Foreign Service and began training as an attaché in Bonn. In 1991/92 he studied at the Ecole Nationale d'Administration and the Quai d'Orsay in France. Before she went to the German Embassy in Phnom Penh as deputy ambassador in 1993, she worked in the Economics and Humanitarian Aid Department at the Foreign Office in Bonn from 1992 to 1993.

In 1995 she moved to the management team at the Federal Foreign Office. This was followed in 1998 in the Politics Department: Security Council, Africa at the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations in New York. In 2001, Ory moved back to Germany and initially worked in the Foreign Policy Department in the Federal President's Office, before taking over as Head of the Multilateral Cooperation Asia Department in the Foreign Office in 2004.

From 2008 to 2011 she was Director General of the German Taipei Institute . This was followed by assignments in the Federal Foreign Office as Head of Department Southeast Asia, Pacific (2011-2016), Head of International Economic Relations (2016-2018) and Office Manager in the office of Minister of State Michelle Müntefering . Birgitt Ory has been the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Nigeria since September 2019 .
