Bis is the name of a British band that was founded in 1995 and split up in 2003. Their style of music can be described as synth pop and dance music. The three band members are Amanda MacKinnon (stage name "Manda Rin"), Steven Clark (stage name "Sci-Fi Steven") and Stevens younger brother John Clark (stage name "John Disco").

history

Bis was founded in 1995, when Manda and John were still going to school, Steven had just graduated. In 1996, Bis were the first band to appear on the famous TV show Top of the Pops without a record deal . After the performance, they gained more and more attention , especially in Great Britain , and were signed by the record companies Wiiija (for Great Britain) and Grand Royal , the label of the Beastie Boys (for the USA ). After releasing a few EPs in small numbers in 1996 , their debut album The New Transistor Heroes followed in 1997 . The album was a huge success, especially in Japan , where almost 100,000 CDs were sold in the first week. Bis became known in the US when they wrote a song for the soundtrack of the movie Powerpuff Girls .

Bis managed to enter the top 40 of the UK charts twice: in 1996 with the EP The Secret Vampire Soundtrack and in 1998 with the single Eurodisco . In other European countries and in the USA they could not book any chart successes. After Bis had released a total of five albums, they announced their separation in February 2003. All three band members turned to other musical projects. Steven and John played in the band Dirty Hospital , Amanda became the DJ and singer of The Kitchen . In 2005 the three formed a new band called data Panik , together with bass player Stuart Memo and drummer Graham Christie. After singer Manda Rin also made solo music, the band went on tour again as Bis in April 2007, and a greatest hits album and a DVD were released.
