The Bismarckschule Memmingen is a state middle school with grades five to nine.

history

The Bismarck School in Memmingen was housed in the former Elsbethenkloster . Since the number of students rose steadily, in 1887 a new building in front of the city wall was considered.

In 1902 the current school building was built by the city architect Peter Lang as a primary school . Initially, it was planned to accommodate the municipal secondary school with the upper secondary school in the same building, but this was discarded and a separate building was built for the secondary secondary school. Because the number of pupils rose sharply again in 1925, the west wing was added to the existing schoolhouse in 1928, which was in use from 1929. The vocational school , the Protestant boys 'school, the Catholic boys' school and the auxiliary school were now located in what was then the primary school .

During the Second World War, classes could be continued. At times, a hospital for the war wounded was also housed in the rooms. When the United States Armed Forces occupied the city in April 1945 , all teachers were fired and schools ceased. Lessons began again only from October 1, 1945. Twelve teachers were available for 1045 students. The vocational school moved to new buildings in 1950. In 1955 the school was expanded to include a gym. In the 1997/98 school year it was converted into a full secondary school. In 2002 the Bismarck School celebrated its centenary.

In June 2009, so-called Internet lessons began at the school as the first secondary school in Bavaria.

Full day school

In the 2007/2008 school year, the development of a bound all-day school with the first all-day class began with an 8th grade. In addition, the systematic development of the entire all-day train began with an all-day class of the 5th year.

Today's peculiarities

There is afternoon care at the school. Teachers, volunteers and one-euro workers from the Memmingen Employment Agency are involved in the free homework supervision, in which every student can participate. Currently (2008) around 60% of the students have a migration background . Language learning groups try to promote the German language in students with language problems.
