The Bison is a recovery and towing vehicle based on the Mercedes-Benz Actros . He will u. a. used by the Bundeswehr . The current twelve vehicles of the army are known as " s chweres ge tected B erge- and A bschlepp F classified CAR".

The Actros 4151 AK 8 × 8, which is also used in the civilian towing service for trucks or as a tipper, serves as the basis of the vehicle . The vehicles are armored according to the NATO standard STANAG 4569 (Level 4 ballistic protection and Level 4b mine protection) and offer protection against fire from handguns , mines and unconventional explosive and incendiary devices .

The Bison is powered by a 15,928 cm³ V8 diesel engine (OM 502 LA) that develops 375 kW at 1800 rpm and meets the Euro 5 emissions standard. Its fully synchronized 16 gears, designed as an overdrive transmission, help the bison to a top speed of 85 km / h, while towing is only possible up to 80 km / h. The gross vehicle weight is 48 tons. The Bundeswehr models are equipped with an extendable tow arm and a crane.
