history

Although the succession was no longer in jeopardy after the constitution of other Old Catholic national churches, the practice of appointing a suitable clergyman as Bishop of Deventer was maintained until the second half of the 20th century in the Old Catholic Church of the Netherlands, which, however, still holds his seat never had a time in Deventer itself. In this respect, the role of the Old Catholic bishops of Deventer was similar to that of Roman Catholic auxiliary bishops .

In Deventer itself there were not a single Old Catholics out of 9,186 inhabitants in 1809, in 1849 the number of Old Catholics there was seven out of 15,258 inhabitants.
