That in Italy , this former diocese of Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino ( lat. Nucerinus-Tadinensis) was in the 5th century as a bishopric Nocera Umbra founded and belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Perugia on.

On January 2, 1915, united with the diocese of Gualdo Tadino , also founded in the 5th century , the number of Catholics living in it fell from 60,320 to 40,315 (99.9%) between 1950 and 1980. In 1950, 98 diocesan priests , 40 religious priests and 227 religious sisters lived and worked in 82 parishes in the 1,500 km² diocese . While the number of parishes increased by three by 1980, the number of diocesan priests fell to 66, those of religious priests to 31 and those of religious sisters to 138.

On September 30, 1986 the diocese was united with the diocese of Assisi to form the diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino .
