Diocese of Poggio Mirteto

The diocese of Poggio Mirteto was an Italian diocese in the province of Rieti in Lazio . It existed from 1841 to 1925.

history

For a long time Poggio Mirteto was under the jurisdiction of the Territorial Abbey of Farfa . Later the jurisdiction was transferred to the diocese of Sabina.

The diocese of Poggio Mirteto was formed on November 25, 1841 from parts of the diocese of Rieti , the diocese of Sabina and the dissolved territorial abbey of San Salvatore Maggiore, whose abbey church became a cathedral .

At the beginning of the 20th century the diocese had 38 parishes, 32,600 inhabitants, two male and 8 female monasteries.

On June 3, 1925, the diocese was dissolved and united with the diocese of Sabina to the diocese of Sabina e Poggio Mirteto . The areas that originally came from the diocese of Rieti were annexed to it again.
