Bizunesh Bekele

Bizunesh Bekele (* 1936 ; † 1990 ) was an Ethiopian singer .

She was the first woman from the early 1960s to combine traditional Ethiopian music with military music and Western forms of music such as rhythm and blues and soul , thereby helping to initiate the heyday of Ethiopian pop music in the 1960s and 1970s. She was accompanied by the Imperial Bodyguard Band , but also by the Dahlak Band .

She is considered the "first lady of Ethiopian pop music" and was the role model of Aster Aweke .
