Björn Bjarnason (born November 14, 1944 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician ( Independence Party ) and journalist. From 1995 to 2009 he was first Minister of Education, then Minister of Justice.

Life

Björn Bjarnason was born in Reykjavík, the son of the former Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson .

In 1971 he finished his law studies at the University of Iceland as cand. Jur . In the following years he worked for newspapers such as Vísir and Morgunblaðið as well as in the Prime Minister's office. In 1991 he was elected to the Icelandic parliament Althing for the Independence Party. On April 23, 1995 he became Minister of Education. From May 23, 2003 to April 2009, he was Minister of Justice and Religion.

He is married and has two children.
