Bjǫrn járnsíða
Bjǫrn Ragnarsson járnsíða ( Latin beer Costae ferreae ; German Björn Eisseite ) was a probably Danish Viking leader . Bjǫrn's father is said to have been Ragnar Lodbrok , a legendary (not necessarily historical) Viking leader.
Life
Together with his brother (or mentor) Hásteinn , Bjǫrn plundered the coasts of Western Europe in the 840s and 850s. In 844 Bjǫrn's ships - supposedly more than 100 - appeared in Aquitaine . They followed the course of the Garonne to Toulouse , which they spared. In the same year they appeared on the coast of Asturias , but met well-organized opposition when attempting to take A Coruña . The Vikings then went down the Iberian west coast. They ransacked the Lisbon area for thirteen days . Then they drove further south up the Guadalquivir . When attacking Seville , they also met resistance from the Moors living there . So they finally had to turn back.
