Bjørn Howard Kruse (born August 14, 1946 in London ) is a Norwegian composer and jazz musician.

Kruse grew up in England, the USA and Norway. He studied 1967–1968 at the University of California, Los Angeles and the Norges Musikkhøgskole (1972–1977). Between 1968 and 1971 he worked as a professional musician in the USA and has lived as a composer in Norway since 1972. For twenty years he was also active here as a jazz saxophonist, composer and arranger, producer and studio musician.

For the television opera Et Sjakkspill , Kruse received the television opera award of the city of Salzburg in 1983. Two other operas as well as his saxophone concerto were named works of the year by the Norwegian composers' association NOPA. At the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theater , his opera Tvilling was named best work. As a festival composer Kruse was involved in the Festspillene i Nord-Norge (1994), the Vinterfestspill i Bergstaden (2003) and the Risør Chamber Music Festival (2005).

Since 1976 Kruse has been teaching composition and musical drama at Norges Musikkhøgskole. He published several books on music theory.
