Vesicular rash of snakes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The vesicular rash of snakes (syn. Vesicle disease , incorrectly also called “smallpox” or “waterpox”) is a non-purulent inflammation of the skin of snakes , which is characterized by small blisters all over the body. The vesicles are initially filled with a clear liquid and the underlying skin is unchanged. In the further course, the contents of the vesicles can become purulent and a necrotizing skin inflammation can develop.

The vesicular rash is mainly caused by too humid keeping and poor terrarium hygiene, factors that impair the immune system also play a role. So it is a factor disease .

The treatment takes place by eliminating the poor posture, bathing in disinfecting substances and local antibiotic ointments. In severe cases, an antibiotic must be administered systemically .
