Black is a small impact crater near the eastern edge of the moon . It is located less than 20 kilometers southeast of the Kästner ring plane and southwest of the Mare Smythii . To the south-southwest is the Ansgarius crater and to the east is the small Dale crater .

Black is circular with a pronounced crater rim. The inner crater walls drop evenly onto a relatively small crater floor. The crater shows no noticeable erosion or impact marks.

Marriage Black in 1976 by the International Astronomical Union received (IAU) his own name, he was under the name Kastner F known.
