The Black Face (English for Black Face ) is the 300 m high south face of an east-west oriented mountain ridge on the edge of the Arena Valley in the Quartermain Mountains of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It rises 1.5 km south of the East Beacon . The formation is a striking landmark and consists of dark dolerite rock .

The descriptive naming was made by the New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee after the Australian geologists Clifford Turner McElroy (1924-2006), Kerry J. Whitby and G. Rose between 1980 and 1981 had examined the area around the mountain wall.
