The Quartermain Mountains are a group of exposed and ice-free mountain peaks in the Antarctic dry valleys south of the Taylor Glacier in East Antarctic Victoria Land . These include the Finger Mountain , Mount Handsley , Mount Feather and the Tabular Mountain as well as the Knobhead , the Terra Cotta Mountain , the New Mountain , the Beacon Heights , the Pyramid Mountain , the Arena Valley , the Kennar Valley , the Turnabout Valley as well some valleys and ridges of the Beacon Valley .

The mountain range was visited by participants in the Discovery Expedition (1901-1904) and the Nimrod Expedition (1907-1909), who made some of the naming. These were completed by later expeditions from the 1950s. The mapping of the area was carried out in particular by the United States Antarctic Program in conjunction with aerial photographs of the United States Navy in the years 1947 to 1983. The New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the mountains after Lester Bowden Quartermain (1895-1973), a New Zealand historian.
