Black Pumas are an American band from Austin , Texas . It consists of the singer Eric Burton and the guitarist and producer Adrian Quesada and plays a mixture of soul and funk pieces with Latin influences. She was nominated as " Best New Artist " for a Grammy at the 2020 Grammy Awards .

Band history

The duo Black Pumas was founded in 2017 by the singer Eric Burton and the guitarist Adrian Quesada. Quesada was a member of the Latin band Grupo Fantasma , with whom he was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album with the album Sonidos Gold and won this for the 2010 album El Existential . Quesada was also part of the Brownout band, which was also founded in Austin, and worked with numerous soloists, including Prince and Daniel Johnston . Before founding the Black Pumas, Eric Burton was mainly a street singer and was introduced to Quesada by a mutual friend when he was looking for a singer for a new project in 2017.

The Black Pumas released their first album entitled Black Pumas on June 21, 2019 on ATO Records . They played at the South by Southwest Festival in 2019 and won a trophy for best new band at the 2019 Austin Music Awards. In November 2019, they were nominated for a Grammy at the 2020 Grammy Awards for Best New Artist .
