Blair House is a manor house near the Scottish village of Dalry in the Council Area of North Ayrshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The mansion was built in different phases and expanded several times. It goes back to a tower house , which probably dates from the 16th, possibly already from the 15th century. The year 1203 on a lintel certainly does not indicate the year of construction of the current structure. The south wing was added in 1668, the east wing dates from the 18th century and the north wing from 1893. The most recent addition was carried out by Thomas Leadbetter and also included the redesign of the facade of the east wing and the redesign of the interior.

description

The three to four-story mansion is isolated around one kilometer southeast of Dalry. It has a roughly T-shaped floor plan. The masonry is made of quarry stone , which is clad with ashlar throughout. The main entrance is in a corner of the building on a square protruding tower of the south wing. Blinding pillars flank the door, while the Blair coat of arms is mounted above it. The gables are made as a stepped gable . The roofs are covered with slate and provided with hatches .
