Blanchard is an impact crater on the far side of the moon , just past the southwestern rim. It lies between the Pilâtre crater in the southeast and Arrhenius in a north-northwest direction. The rugged terrain extends further south to the north of the Hausen ring plain .
Blanchard's crater rim is rounded and eroded, and is slightly elongated to the northeast. There is a breach in the northwestern crater wall caused by the Blanchard P satellite crater . The remainder of the crater rim has several gaps caused by impacts, mainly in the southeastern area. The two craters have almost merged and share a common crater floor. This crater floor is somewhat uneven, but has neither a central mountain nor any other noticeable features.
