Pilâtre is an impact crater on the extreme southwestern edge of the moon front , north of the large Hauser crater and northeast of Chappe . The rim of the crater is very badly eroded and the interior is furrowed from numerous impacts.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1991 after the French aviation pioneer Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier .
