The leaf time , a term from the hunter's language , is the period in the mating season of the roe deer when the bait hunt for the roebuck, the so-called leaf , can be successfully carried out.

The mating season, i.e. H. the rutting of the roe deer begins in mid-July and lasts until mid-August. Often the entire period is referred to as leaf time. However, the actual leaf season does not begin until the end of July. Then the majority of the doe and narrow deer are “shod” and mated by a roebuck. The roebucks then hardly find any rutting female deer and are therefore more often lured by the hunter on their search .

In "Blatten", the beeping sounds of the female deer or fawn are imitated by blowing a fresh leaf, blade of grass or a lamella of birch bark brought between the thumbs to the lips. Today, so-called most Blatter used in which the are generated in a harmonica that Fieplaute by blowing a metal tongue similar. Blattening is a difficult craft, and anyone who does not master it can easily " blatten " the buck .

Shooting at copulating bucks is incompatible with hunting ethics : Do not shoot the buck off the doe .

In the Scandinavian countries the hunt for roebucks during the rut or leaf season is sometimes considered to be unhealthy. H. ethically indefensible, respected.
