Rut

The term rut (about mhd. Brunft from ahd. Breman "buzz", "roar", because of the longing cry of the male animals in their mating season transferred to that period) or heat (about mhd. Brunst , OHG. Brunst to brinnen "Burn") as well as the synonymous terms rutting season , rutting season and ranting time (late mhd. Rantzen "jump impetuously", mhd. Tendrils "move back and forth") are synonyms for mating season . They come from the hunter's language for ruminating hoofed game . Pairing willing deer let into the rut rut on the course regularly their rutting cries sound, these vocalizations are the red deer as tubes called.
