The Blue Lagoon is Europe's largest prefabricated house center. The approximately 74,000 m² exhibition area is located in Wiener Neudorf , south of Vienna , right next to the Shopping City Süd . The company headquarters and administration are located in Vienna.

Business model

According to its own definition, the center sees itself as a “Smart Expo”: In addition to the topic of prefabricated houses , themed worlds and consulting services relating to building, renovation / renovation and modern living are offered. The Blue Lagoon works in a similar way to a shopping center or a year-round fair. Around 100 suppliers are currently exhibiting, around 40% of them in the prefabricated house sector (as of December 2015). On average, around 150,000 people gather information in the Blue Lagoon every year.

In Austria today, every third one or two-family house is built using prefabricated construction. The prefabricated house center has made a significant contribution to this since it opened in 1991: At the beginning of the 1990s, the proportion of prefabricated houses in new buildings was around 12 percent, today it is over 33 percent.

The companies in the prefabricated house sector in Austria achieve a turnover of 848 million euros per year. Around 50% of this, i.e. 425 million euros, is sold via the Blue Lagoon.

history

The Blue Lagoon was founded in 1991 by Erich Benischek. At that time, he had already worked in the real estate and prefabricated house industry for several years.

The official opening took place on June 13, 1992. In the first expansion stage, the prefabricated house center comprised 51 model houses. The investments made during the establishment of the company amounted to 14.53 million euros. In addition to the model houses, advice and service on the topics of financing and prefabricated cellars were offered from the start.

In 1997/98 the prefabricated house center was expanded to 65 model houses. 3.27 million euros were invested.

In 2001/02 the second expansion to 85 model homes followed with investments of 7.27 million euros. In addition, space was created for additional exhibition worlds.

In the course of time, various theme worlds and advice centers were set up:

  • Garden world: May 2006
  • Energy world: March 2009
  • Garage World: December 2009
  • Security World: December 2010 (is currently being rescheduled, as of December 2015)
  • Wellness world: September 2012
  • Expansion of the energy world to the technology world: 2012/13 (with the topics of smart living , building innovations, attic expansion and roof renovation)
  • Window world: April 2014

The Austrian Society for Sustainable Real Estate Management has been a partner of the Blue Lagoon since May 2014 and operates its Service Center East on the exhibition grounds.

On October 1, 2014, the LISI house (Living Inspired by Sustainable Innovation) was opened as part of the exhibition focus on "Architecture and Innovation". It is the winning house of the Solar Decathlon 2013 and was built on five wooden pontoons directly on the lake of the prefabricated house center.
