The Basset bleu de Gascogne is a French dog breed recognized by the FCI ( No. 35, Gr. 6, Sec. 1.3 ) .

Origin and history

The namesake of the Basset bleu de Gascogne is the province of Gascogne in southwestern France . This type of dog has been bred here for a long time. The French Revolution survived the breed in three sizes: Grand Chien, Briquet, and Basset. Around 1910, Monsieur Bourbon adopted this breed and saved it from disappearing. To stabilize it, he crossed the remains of Bassets Saintongeois with Grands Bleus. Today's appearance, today's size was achieved through targeted selection. Lovers appreciate the gentle, calm manner, the conscientious work when hunting bunnies and rabbits, the color and the sound of the tracks ( bells ).
