The Bleiberger factory is a former factory building in Aachen , which is now home to an educational institution .

history

In 1881 the factory building for the spinning oil production of the Detilleux company was built. The name Bleiberger Fabrik is based on the location of the building on Bleiberger Straße.

In its over 100-year history, the building has housed various craft businesses and has been extended and rebuilt several times. In 1979 the Jugendwerk für internationale Zusammenarbeit eV bought the house and extensively renovated the old building stock. Today the Bleiberger factory is an old building with a lot of charm and atmosphere, whose generously equipped rooms invite you to work creatively.

The former factory building was acquired and renovated in 1980 by the Jugendwerk für internationale Zusammenarbeit eV with the support of many friends and sponsors. Jesuit Father Erich Lennartz thus created the basis for musical and creative educational work for children, young people and adults. This work is carried out by the Bildungswerk Carolus Magnus eV , the youth art school in the Bleiberger factory and the youth associations of the Christian Life Community (J-GCL).

tasks

For 30 years, the Bleiberger factory in the west of Aachen has asserted itself as a cultural and adventure space for children, young people and adults.

With the educational institution and its atmosphere, the operators invite you to be creative and to discover or re-experience your own possibilities. The range on offer ranges from playful courses for toddlers to creative dance to painting, drawing and modeling courses for adults.

The "Bleiberger", as it is called in short, places people with their needs and wishes for the expression and design of their environment at the center of their work. The house with its open, sometimes unorganized environment leaves room for individual development and encourages people to break out of traditional patterns, dare to experiment and thus develop their own artistic expression.

use

Outside of the school holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia , the building is used for courses and workshops by the Carolus Magnus eV educational organization. During all school holidays (except summer holidays), the J-GCL's music-creative work weeks find a home there.

The music-creative work weeks

The music and creative work weeks are a J-GCL event. They take place in the Bleiberger factory.

history

The music and creative work weeks were brought into being in 1965 by Jesuit father Erich Lennartz and some employees of the Catholic Student Youth (KSJ). Today they are organized by the youth organizations of the Christian Life Communities. In its 45-year history, over 70,000 children and young people have taken part in the "Werkwochen", as they are known for short.

In autumn 2010 the Werkwochen celebrate their 500th anniversary. Around 500 participants from all over Germany and neighboring countries are expected. In order to do justice to this mass of children and young people, the venue is being relocated to the Maria Montessori Comprehensive School in Aachen. The event ends with a church service in Aachen Cathedral and a ceremony in the Aachen theater , to which over 1,000 visitors from politics, education and business are expected.

background

The establishment of the Werkwochen was accompanied by the critical discussions of traditional school learning content in all areas of society and the political optimism in the late sixties. With creative media, head-heavy school learning should be replaced by direct, sensual engagement. The creative process also offered a variety of starting points for a personal learning process in the group.

offer

The work weeks take place during all school holidays. A four- or five-day vacation measure with or without an overnight stay is offered. The focus of this program is on working with various materials, media and performing arts. The work "Der Spielende Mensch" by Jesuit Father Erich Lennartz forms the basis for the work. He appeals to the fact that man finds himself in action and doing.

The offer of the Werkwochen is divided into the areas "Works & Shapes", "Drafting & Shaping", "Developing & Representing" and "Playing & Moving". Within a work week, the basic idea of free choice of courses and workshops comes into play, so that every child can try out whatever they are interested in - completely contrary to the familiar learning structures of the school system.

In addition to the range of works, there is also a range of leisure activities that range from the classic singing round around the campfire to night hikes and visits to the open air pool and disco.

Employee

A group of over 60 active and inactive volunteer employees is responsible for running the work weeks. A so-called diocesan guide is elected from among their ranks, which is responsible for coordinating the volunteers and is responsible for the event.

External speakers are responsible for the range of works.

Venue

In principle, the work weeks are carried out in the Bleiberger factory during the day. An overnight stay takes place in the youth education center Rolleferberg of the Federation of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ) in Aachen. During the summer holidays, the work weeks are carried out in sporadic alternation entirely in the youth training center or on the Wildenburg in Hellenthal .

Youth art school in the Bleiberger factory

The youth art school in the Bleiberger factory is one of 60 institutions that are part of the state working group for cultural educational services and youth art schools in NRW e. V. have merged. The central goal of the youth art schools is to promote artistic and cultural self-activity and the ability to express themselves in children and young people. Youth art schools direct their offers to young people from all social classes. Axel Jansen from Würselen has been the manager since 2015.

Bildungswerk Carolus Magnus eV

The Carolus Magnus eV educational institute is responsible for adult and advanced training in the Bleiberger factory. It is a recognized institution of further education in North Rhine-Westphalia and runs all courses outside of the school holidays.

Cooperations

Aachen Summer Academy

Every year the Bleiberger Fabrik organizes the Aachen Summer Academy in cooperation with the Academy for Craft Design Gut Rosenberg . Artists and everyone interested in art and design from Germany , but also from neighboring euregional countries, are invited. In five-day workshops, artists from the Euregio impart basic knowledge of artistic work, artistic techniques and content to those interested in vocational training, crafts and free artistic practice. A central element of the workshops is the discussion among the seminar participants about the visual arts and the different positions that the artists represent.
