Lead glaze

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lead glaze is a translucent, lead-containing glaze on ceramics , in which the base painting shines through.

By using lead (II) oxide as a network converter , the refraction of light on the surface is increased compared to other glazes, so that the colors appear particularly brilliant. When lead glazes are used on objects that come into contact with food, increased quality requirements are placed in order to prevent the toxic lead oxide from being washed out.
