Text and covers

Rita Hayworth (1942), who sang the song in the film with the voice of Jo Ann Greer

"The rain sings its song night after night, a song that makes us lonely and tired ..." it says at the beginning of the German translation, in the original I'm gettin 'Blue Pacific Blues. The feelin 'you get from real bad news. I wanna hear bells, I when see trains. I get in this mood whenever it rains… A woman thinks of the man on a rainy night, whom she simply cannot forget, it is oppressively humid and she has the blues. She lies awake and smokes and wishes that tomorrow would come and her fear will evaporate ...

In 1953 Leo Diamond released a cover version with the Van Alexander orchestra at Ambassador . Also Caterina Valente coverte the song in a German version, but the producers were waving the mid-1950s from initially, although Kurt Edelhagen pointed out that the song in America have had outstanding success; This version was only released decades later on her album "Caterina Valente & Orchester Kurt Edelhagen", after Valente had made a career as a hit rather than a jazz singer due to the producer's decision. The Marnhy Trio also covered the song at the time. Lale Andersen sang the song in 1964 on her album "Portrait in Music" and Jerry Adler played it in 1962 on his album "A Handful of Blues". The song was also sung by Candis Alek, in 1962 by Don Cherry , in 1965 by Damita Jo and played by Richard Hayman and his orchestra.

Award / nomination

In 1954 , Blue Pacific Blues was nominated for an Oscar in the "Best Song" category. The award went to Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster for their song Secret Love from the comedic western Heavy Colts in Tender Hands (Calamity Jane) .
