The Blumenroth Ponor Cave is a 50 m long cave in the Wuppertal city area. It is related to the " sinkhole with creek flowering Blumenroth", which is shown as a geological natural monument in the landscape plan Wuppertal-Nord under 2.6.16.
Location and description
The Bachschwinde Blumenroth are located in the Wuppertal district of Oberbarmen , east of Nachbarebreck at the Hoflage Blumenroth , near the city limits of Schwelm in the Ennepe-Ruhr district . It is located north of Linderhauser Straße in a small wooded area, the stream shrinkage is fed by the Blumenbach. The Blumenroth Ponor Cave is a 50 m long and 25 m deep middle cave .
The Bachschwinde Blumenroth is station # 14 and the end point of the Wuppertal Geopath .
history
The working group Kluterthöhle e. V. (AKKH) together with the city of Wuppertal carried out extensive renaturation work in a large sinkhole on the Blumenroth in the winter of 1999/2000 . The Blumenroth Ponor Cave was discovered during this work. Considerable dimensions in the entrance area and very strong drafts gave hope for a continuation of the shaft-like cave.
A proposal to designate a natural monument was made in 2007 by geologist Thomas Wardenbach after an investigation of the city's geotopes .
Protection status
The sinkhole with the flowering stream Blumenroth is shown in the landscape plan Wuppertal-Nord under 2.6.16 as a natural monument since 2008.
