Ensemble Blumenstrasse 92–96 Solingen

The ensemble Blumenstrasse 92-96 in Solingen- Mitte was built in 1892 by Franz Kaulmann and consists of three shared, full- cellar houses on a half-timbered basis, each with its own entrance. In the monument list of the city of Solingen it is listed under the numbers 896 (house number 92) and 1017 (house numbers 94, 96). The lower part of the property borders the Vorspel green area.

history

Lorenz Kaulmann, a trained blacksmith , founded a civil engineering company in 1892. One of the first construction projects was the building listed here, and very likely the first company headquarters. He also supplied tools for the construction of the Sengbach dam and played a key role in expanding the gas and water network in the city of Solingen. The company is still in its fifth generation as Karl Zangerl GmbH & Co. KG in Solingen.

The Solingen address book from 1901 lists only one address for the three houses, representative of the company and private use:

Surname job House number
Lor. Kaulmann Schachtmstr 94

According to the entries in the Solingen address book from 1931, the following residents were listed:

Surname job House number
Hermann Graef Workers 92
August Klein Feiler 92
Oskar Klein Presser 92
Eugenmachenbach Traveller 92

The city of Solingen, as the owner, used the building as a residence for employees of the metal college opposite, which was completed in 1908 .

The application for inclusion in the list of monuments was made in 1986. This was done in 1991 for house no. 92, as this part was still owned by the city of Solingen at the time. For houses 94 and 96, the entry in the list of monuments in 2001 was completed. The street side as well as the gable side to the Vorspel are protected in their own way. The simple back is not considered by the monument protection.

The family-owned houses were foreclosed in 2003 and again in 2005 and were sold into different hands, some of them by private hands. At that time, the houses were each inhabited by three parties. Today there are also offices.

architecture

The house has a plaster base on which a slated, two-storey house was built with the stately width of nine window axes, which are arranged along the Blumenstrasse in a cluster. The axially symmetrical front side to the street is divided into three by three axes, with the middle three with the central entrance pulled forward as a flat risalit and covered by a stately triangular gable. In detail, the facade is designed simply and effectively. Small consoles are placed on the windows of the first floor, every second window on the upper floor has a gable roof, while the others have only one console. The window above the central entrance with a segmental arch-shaped structure should be emphasized.

The traditional Bergisch construction of the white window frames, the green painted shutters and the slated facade is clearly recognizable.

The strong protruding eaves cornice is also very impressive and drawn around the corner of the building.

Due to its size and the high-quality design of the street-defining residential building from the late 19th century, it is a well-preserved testimony to the architecture and residential construction in Solingen and the Bergisches Land in the early days of the company .

The superstructure at house 96 as a passage is not designed according to the house style, even if the Bergische triad was modeled.
