The blood knot is a knot used in fishing . It is used to connect two cord ends of similar strength and is mostly used for thin cords (e.g. nylon ).

With the ends you twist a few turns around the other cord. Then the ends are put through the loop formed in the middle and tightened. With smooth cords, each side should have at least five turns.

Alternatives

  • As a simple but less stable connection, anglers also use the double spar stitch .
  • If the end is not put through the middle, but the last winding around both strands and then each (left and right) under the first winding, an "adjustable blood knot" is created.
  • The clinch knot is used to secure the fish hook and is similar to a half blood knot. The end goes through the eye in front of the hook's eye and through the bay.
