Blood marks

Blood Marks ( The Mephisto Club ) is a 2006 novel from the Medical Thriller genre by the US writer Tess Gerritsen .

Blood Marks is the sixth book in the Jane Rizzoli series about Boston detective Jane Rizzoli and coroner Dr. Maura Isles. According to her own statements, the author was inspired by the Book of Enoch , which she came across by chance in a bookstore. This text from pre-Christian times tells of angels who begat children with people. These so-called Nephilim were characterized on the one hand by brilliance and genius, on the other hand by an abysmal malevolence.

action

A gruesome ritual murder shakes the residents of Boston. Only a short time later, a young police officer was killed under similar circumstances. The acts seem to be related to the dubious Mephisto Club, whose wealthy and influential members have made it their business to fight “evil”. They are convinced that an ancient secret organization from Egypt has survived to the present day and continues to pursue its criminal activities unabated.

Jane Rizzoli initially suspects that this dubious Mephisto Club itself is behind the murders - especially since her bitterest opponent, the psychiatrist Joyce O'Donnell, who makes a living by preparing exonerating reports for psychopathic criminals, is a member there. Only when O'Donnell is also murdered does it become clear that the club itself is the target of the perpetrator (s).

The tracks lead to the Mediterranean. A young woman has been here for more than ten years on the run from her cousin, who killed his entire family as a child - with the exception of his mother, who came from Egypt. With the help of the Mephisto Club, Jane Rizzoli manages to track down the young woman. To protect her from her persecutor, she is placed in the hermetically sealed house of a leading club member, unaware that the perpetrator's Egyptian mother sneaked into the organization years ago under a false name.
