The two-color fisherman ( Chloroceryle inda ) is a kingfisher of the Neotropics .

features

The two-color fisherman reaches a total length of 24 cm and a weight of 46–60 g. The bird is shimmering dark green on the top and reddish brown on the underside. The wings show, especially in the female, a fine white dash. Only the female has a broad green and white chest band.

Occurrence

The distribution area extends from southeastern Nicaragua , Costa Rica and Panama to the Gulf of Guayaquil and east of the Andes across northern South America to the Atlantic coast of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina . The two-color fisherman occurs from sea level up to an altitude of 400 m. He is an inhabitant of dense forests on flowing waters, swamp forests and mangroves .

The two-color fisherman hunts for prey from a branch in the water. The food consists of fish up to 12 cm long and shrimp .

Reproduction

Little is known about the breeding biology of the two-color fisherman. The clutch consists of three to five eggs.
