Božakovo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Božakovo ( German Sankt Magdalenen ) is a place in the Slovenian region of Bela krajina and lies above the border river Kolpa , which at this point has deeply carved the Magdalen wall . The village belongs to the Metlika municipality .

geography

From Božakovo there is a panoramic view of Bubnjarci and the two mills on both sides of the Kolpa opposite at the level crossing to Rosalnice .

The karst caves Zdenec and Vidovec open east of the village . The village's stream seeps into the underworld on the edge of the Weißkrainer Karst . If you follow the clearly visible dry valley, you come to the Vidovec cave, which is the longest of all Weisskrainer caves at approx. 270 m. Here the village brook comes to the surface again and flows down to the river Kupa. The approx. 78 m long Zdenc spring cave below the village was walled up with stones by the locals in order to use it as a drinking source and cattle trough. In the back of the cave, separated by an artificial wall, the water collects and is led to the entrance with pipes.

Attractions

One of the sights of the place is the Church of St. Magdalena , which was mentioned in a document as early as 1334. Another attraction is the Marienhelferin chapel , located on the outskirts - coming from Rosalnice .

particularities

A special feature is the neighboring vineyard house, where the village winemakers meet in the evening to drink home-made wine according to the motto "on the other half". Anyone who brings 10 liters of cider as a membership fee shortly before "Martin's Day" can take part. This is then sold by the village winemaker to the village visitors.
