Bubnjarci Palace

Bubnjarci (until 1918 Sankt Kosma and Damian ) is a village in Croatia on the Slovenian border. The name Bubnjarci ( Croatian bubnjar = drummer) comes from the 15th and 16th centuries. Century, when the inhabitants served the knights of Ozalj and Ribnik as drummers in the fight against the Turks. The name Bubnjarački Brod for the area stretching from Bukovac to Žakanje comes from the 16th century. The manor house above Bubnjarci of the same name was first mentioned in the 15th century. At that time it was one of the most important castles in Croatia. Its exact location is known in the Franziszeischer Kataster , only there is no evidence of the time of construction. The castle with its 178 estates, most recently owned by Matilda Nemicič , was auctioned on September 12, 1895 and acquired by the 1st Niederkrainschen private bank Metlika , founded in 1874.

Geographical location

Bubnjarci is located in the immediate vicinity of the river Kupa (Kulpa), which is the border river to Slovenia there , near the Slovenian Metlika . As early as the 12th century, the Kupa formed the border between Kranjska (Krain) and Croatia .

history

Bubnjarci has belonged to the former municipality of Lipnik, now Ribnik , since the 14th century . As early as 1418 this comprised 25 villages with 4,784 souls. This is engraved in the Ribnik church bell. However, since the way to Ribnik was far too far, the holy mass in Metlika in the Carniola was attended.

Railway history

The section to the Kupa is cut through by the railway connection, which - as part of the new road to Karlovac - was expanded from Ljubljana (Ljubljana) to Novo mesto (Rudolfswert) in 1913 and to Karlovac in 1914. Originally, this connection was to be continued from the Bubnjarci junction (12 shunting tracks ) to Dubrovnik , but the decline of the Austrian monarchy in 1918 put an end to these plans. Today the two-axle rail buses of the old DB series 795 operate here between Metlika (Möttling) and Karlovac (Karlstadt).

Personalities

Franjo Herendic , a wealthy nobleman, owned the Bubnjarci estate in the 16th century, the property of which adjoined Žakanje . Hence the name Bubnjarački Brod . Petar Lukic , born in Trg , a nobleman who owned the property adjacent to Ribnik, spread the Lutheran faith during this time . Herendic was so good friends with Lukic that in 1579, when he determined his will, he wanted Lukic present as a witness ("i Lukic Petar predykator").

Most recently Bubnjarci was owned by Matilda Nemicič , b. House, widowed Šuflaj. She was previously married to Žiga Šuflaj , the son of Filip Aleksandar Šufflaj (born February 12, 1796 in Samobor , † November 22, 1882 in Brlog ). Most recently she was married to Milan Nemicič . Filip Aleksandar Šufflaj bought the Brlog Palace in 1838 and acquired the Bubnjarci estate in 1859. The old grave of Žiga Šufflaj can still be seen in the Bubnjarci cemetery and was extensively renovated in 2015. Daniel Šufflaj , Žiga's father and Žiga's mother-in-law Marija Haus are also buried here .

The administrator of the Bubnjarci Palace from 1832 was Jože Matije House (* September 2, 1807 , † 1859 ). He was the father of the only Austro-Hungarian Grand Admiral , Anton Freiherr von Haus . Mother's tombstone, Marija Haus, geb. Walter, the daughter of the famous painter Franz Walter from Slovenj Gradec in Tolmin , (born October 28, 1817 in Moravia , † March 3, 1892), is still standing in the cemetery in Bubnjarci. The admiral, who was born in Tolmin but grew up in Bubnjarci until 1859, was buried in Vienna . He was married to his aunt's daughter, Anna Karoline Trenz (Nettie), born in Drašković (* May 24, 1857, † May 6, 1924), as the daughter of Count Dr. Ferdinand Trenz . Admiral Haus was therefore also the uncle of Ana Kessler , who was married to the great Slovenian poet Oton Župančič , as well as of Vera Albendet . Haus had 2 siblings (Matilda and Katharina) and an older brother (Gustav); he was the 3rd child. The youngest sister, the composer Katharina von Escherich (Kitty) (born November 25, 1855 in Varaždin , † October 4, 1916 in Vienna), was married to Gustav von Escherich , professor of mathematics in Vienna. A famous grandson of Anton Haus is Freiherr Hermann A. Haus († 2003 in Lexington). Anton Haus and his family were (posthumously) raised to the baron class (von Hohernwart) in 1918.

Attractions

The baroque chapel of Sveti Križ , which was completed in 1753 and can be seen from afar, with its old cemetery is worth seeing . In the chapel there are two side altars from 1830, which are historically worth seeing. The residents are currently renovating them with a new copper roof and new facade. The chapel was first mentioned in 1688, but was built without a bell tower with an entrance area. Even before the Zupe Žakanje parish was founded, Bubnjarci belonged to Lipnik as a parish. Today you can also see the old water tower of the kukEisenbahn, which was fired to fill the many steam locomotives with hot water. At various points you can still guess the twelve shunting and turning tracks that were laid along the Kupa towards the river crossing bridge. The old and meanwhile dilapidated railway building still points to the busy time around 1900 in Bubnjarci.

Other events

The school in Bubnjarci opened in 1922. A few years later, in 1925, the Bubnjarci Voluntary Fire Brigade (DVD) was founded. In 2000 the Sports Association (SD) Bubnjarci was founded, and in 2009 the "Bubnjarci Cultural Association".
