After graduating from high school , he studied physics and mathematics at the University of Vienna . On the recommendation of Gernerth, Escherich got an assistant position at the Joanneum in Graz , where he wrote the thesis "The geometry on the surfaces of constant curvature" and received his doctorate there. For the time being, he was an associate professor at the University of Graz from 1876 to 1879 before he was appointed full professor in Czernowitz . There he wrote the “Introduction to the analytical geometry of space”.
