Emil Müller (mathematician)

Emil Adalbert Müller (born April 22, 1861 in Landskron ; † September 1, 1927 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mathematician.

Müller studied at the University of Vienna and the Technical University of Vienna . In 1885 he passed the teaching examination there. In 1898 he received his doctorate in Königsberg under Friedrich Wilhelm Franz Meyer ( The geometry of oriented spheres according to Grassmann's methods ). From 1902 he was professor for descriptive geometry at the TH Vienna, where he particularly endeavored to improve the teaching of descriptive geometry and founded the Vienna School of Descriptive Geometry. From 1905 to 1907 he was dean of the civil engineering department and 1912/13 rector. In 1903 he founded the Austrian Mathematical Society together with Ludwig Boltzmann and Gustav von Escherich . One of his students was Karl Strubecker .

Müller was a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and, since 1918, of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina .
